The Innovation Demonstration Fund

The objective of the IDF is to help companies commercialize innovative technologies in Ontario. Preference will be given to bio-based, environmental and alternative energy technologies. The funding is to be used for technology demonstration activities at the pilot stage.

IDF will provide financial support covering up to 50 percent of eligible costs for approved Eligible Projects that have as their goal commercialization. The funding ranges from a minimum of $100,000 to a maximum of $4,000,000 per project total. In addition, funding for those eligible projects will not exceed $2,000,000 per year, per project.

Who May Apply?

Companies with eligible projects that will be undertaken in Ontario,  resulting in full scale commercialization in Ontario.

How to Apply?

Proposals can be submitted on an ongoing basis. Applicants must complete the Application Form and provide a comprehensive business plan. Guidelines for the business plan are set out in the Business Plan Guide.

What Types of Costs are Eligible?

Costs incurred and paid by the applicant after the date of the Application, that, are necessary and directly relate to the project. Costs which are not eligible include Land, Business case preparation, success fees, third party government relations consulting services, Vehicles and off site equipment, General working capital requirements not directly attributable to the approved Project including debt service costs and, Federal or Provincial income taxes, surtaxes or special expenses; and  Remuneration to Shareholders.
